Raipur, October 21, 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday paid tribute to police and security personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, crediting their courage and sacrifice for the decisive progress made against Naxalism and the emergence of a new era of peace and development in Bastar.

Addressing the Police Commemoration Day parade at the 4th Battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force in Mana, Raipur, the Chief Minister said areas once gripped by Naxal violence and fear were witnessing a gradual transformation, with development reaching remote villages and public confidence in governance growing.

Sai laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and honoured the families of martyred personnel by presenting them with shawls, shriphal and mementoes. He said the government remained committed to protecting the dignity and welfare of the families of those who had made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

Bastar witnesses a push for peace and development

The Chief Minister said the government’s strategy was focused not only on security operations but also on accelerating development in areas affected by decades of violence.

Roads, electricity, education, healthcare, drinking water and communication facilities were being expanded in remote parts of Bastar, he said, adding that government schemes were increasingly reaching underserved tribal communities.

Sai highlighted initiatives such as the Niyad Nellanar Yojana, PM-JANMAN and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, which aim to improve access to essential services in remote and tribal areas.

He said the gains against Naxalism had placed a greater responsibility on the government to consolidate peace and ensure that the benefits of development reached every section of society.

Government committed to welfare of martyrs’ families

Emphasising the contribution of families of security personnel, Sai said the sacrifice of a soldier was supported by the patience, courage and silent struggles of family members.

He assured the families of the martyrs that the state government would stand by them in every circumstance. Their resilience and commitment to national service, he said, continued to inspire society.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also paid tribute to the personnel who lost their lives while protecting the country and serving the public. He said security forces had demonstrated exceptional courage in Naxal-affected areas and were also helping ensure that government welfare schemes reached ordinary citizens.

Sharma expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs, acknowledging their suffering and sacrifice.

Police modernisation remains a priority

Sai said the state government was working to equip police and security forces with modern technology, better resources and improved training. Welfare measures for personnel and their families were also a priority, he added.

He expressed confidence that the Chhattisgarh Police and security forces would continue to safeguard peace, security and development through their dedication and commitment to duty.

Police Commemoration Day marks 1959 sacrifice

Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 in memory of 10 Indian police personnel who were killed in an encounter with Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959.

The day honours police personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation and serves as a reminder of their contribution to national security, law enforcement and public safety.

Earlier, Sai and Sharma also paid floral tributes at the Amar Jawan Stambh at Shaheed Vatika in Rajiv Smriti Van, Raipur, and remembered the courage and sacrifice of the fallen personnel.

MLA Motilal Sahu, Additional Director General of Police Vivekanand Sinha, senior police and security force officers, and family members of the martyrs attended the programme.
